What are Breadcrumbs?

Breadcrumbs for a website are basically, the page path that is shown of some websites, generally below the page title. This path shows us, the particular page route a user is currently viewing, generally from Home Page.

Eg. HomePage > Category > PageName

Ways to resolve missing field item – breadcrumbs issue

1. Check whether you have recently updated your Website theme and that a breadcrumb option
   is available in your Theme Settings.
   a. Go to Website Backend > Dashboard
   b. Dashboard>Appearance>Customize>Theme Settings>BreadCrumbs
   c. Disable BreadCrumb setting and switch it on from Yoast, if you are using
   Yoast SEO plugin for your website

2. Check whether Yoast SEO BreadCrumbs are enabled or not.
   a. Go to Yoast SEO Breadcrumb Settings – Yoast SEO > Search Appearance > Breadcrumbs > Toggle the ‘Breadcrumbs’ switch – Enable it

The main issue resides that somewhere breadcrumbs settings in the website are conflicting, i.e either from Website Theme or SEO Plugin like Yoast.
So, try to disable the theme’s breadcrumb settings and enable Yoast Seo breadcrumbs and check your result.

Note: Timely backup of the website is very important.

As we know, there are many reasons why cURL error comes up and it is difficult to figure out through hit and trial of different methods when you have a live website running. 

Well, we also read in the last blog “SOLVED – cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10000-milliseconds/” that if one cannot overcome this error through all the possible ways and methods, then it is better to set up your existing website again in just 1 hour. 

To begin with it, first, take a backup of your website and database file from PhpMyAdmin. If you don’t know how to backup your site, we would recommend you to either learn or hire a server manager to do that for you. You can also contact Aanha Services, they offer service to backup a website and handover the backup to you at a nominal fee.

The following are the steps you need to follow once you have taken a backup of your existing WordPress website.

1. Go to cPanel and setup WordPress again. 
2. Upload the existing backup to that WordPress folder. 
3. Without changing the new database file path, try to retrieve your website. 
4. When you will visit the link of your new WordPress website setup, it will show all your previous plugins and themes are deactivated but present.
5. Try activating them one by one taking care of the site crash and cURL error. 
6. You might have to make some additional CSS and design settings again 
7. To display your website design just like your previous website.
8. Once you have done all this, you will see your website is set up just like your previous one just the database file is new. Also, all the blogs, pages, and posts are retrieved without any hassle and pain to develop everything from the scratch.

This method is limited to Websites setup on WordPress Platform. In order to add code to the Header & Footer for various purposes and to make your website recognizable, here are the following steps & different methods.

1. Easiest Method for few basic addition (No coding required)

a.) Login to your Website backend through wp-admin – YourWebsiteURL/wp-admin  E.g. google.com/wp-admin.(Google.com is only used for reference purpose, this URL won’t work on Google as Google’s website is not using WordPress platform.)

b.) Click on the big button in the middle of the webpage – “Customize Your Site” (See image)

c.) Here you will find numerous theme settings to update Header & Footer of the website, Like Adding Social Icons, updating Copyright etc. (see image)

Tips: Works for Non-Coders too. Features might differ from theme to theme

2. Method to enter to the PHP files from Front End

a.) Login to your Website backend through wp-admin – YourWebsiteURL/wp-admin  E.g. google.com/wp-admin

b.) In the left-hand sidebar, Go the Appearance>Theme Editor.

c.) Now you have entered the Core files of the website. Here you will find different PHP files including header.php and footer.php (see image)

Tips: Be extra careful while making changes to this section. Remember, any coding goes wrong here, your site will immediately crash

Suggestion: Copy the entire code of a file you are making changes to, e.g. header.php and save a copy to your Local Computer before editing the file. I recommend you to take a backup of the website

3. Method to Find files through Hosting Backend – (Possible only if you have cPanel/Hosting Login credentials)

a.) Login to Hosting. Eg of some hosting providers, GoDaddy, Bluehost, HostGator etc.

b.) Go to cPanel (Path to cPanel can differ depending upon the kind of Hosting Provider you have purchased hosting from)

c.) Click on File Manager Folder. (See image)

d.) Click on public_html folder. That’s where your website directory resides.

e.) Here is the path of folders to find header.php, footer.php and other files – public_html/wp-content/themes/yourthemename. Eg. public_html/wp-content/themes/twentynineteen
